Jiresan Acupuncture provides a combination of Eastern and Western medicinal practices to give you treatment for multiple conditions that work holistically.
This means that rather than just treating individual symptoms, we look at the body as a whole and target the underlying root cause of your condition as well as your outward symptoms.
All our doctors and practitioners are licensed and certified in Alaska, which means you can always be sure of the best possible treatment.
By utilizing multiple perspectives, we will listen to you and discuss your problems, forming a complete understanding of the issues you are facing. From this consultation we will be able to quickly diagnose the causes of pain within your body and prescribe an appropriate program of treatment.
Problems such as stress and anxiety, neck and back pain, sciatica, pinched nerves, plantar fasciitis, Morton’s neuroma, TMJ, and carpal tunnel syndrome may all be caused by musculoskeletal problems that Western medicine may only treat with pain killers or other drugs to relieve the symptoms. By taking a whole-body approach, we work to relieve the pressure points that are causing the problem.

Similarly, issues like bulging discs, herniated discs, high blood pressure, and digestive disorders can all be treated by our therapies which will help to reduce the symptoms and tackle the causes too.
Treatments such as acupuncture have been shown to positively affect patients suffering from insomnia, poor circulation, chronic fatigue, migraines, fibromyalgia, depression, whole body pain, and even multiple sclerosis. While these conditions may not be fully cured, their severity can be significantly reduced so far as to allow patients to lead fully productive lives.
Our treatments have also been successfully used as fertility treatments and in reducing the appearance of allergies.
Once you appreciate that the body is a fully interconnected series of complex systems, you will understand that treatments that seem strange to Western medicine hold validity and get great results. By combining Eastern and Western approaches, we make sure all our patients are in the best health they can be.

At Jiresan Acupuncture, our mission is to provide you with quality holistic care that integrates the best of Eastern and Western medicine. Our full-body approach uses treatments for your entire body, as every part is linked to another part.
Eastern medicine focuses on natural remedies and takes care of the mind and body together. Treatments may not be directly focused on areas that are expressing symptoms, but with the application of thousands of years of knowledge, the inner workings of the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems are explored.

A hip problem may be treated via the foot, while a neck problem may be treated via the hand. To the Western eye this may seem counterintuitive but consider this – when you raise your hand above your head, it can only happen by the muscles of your arm, shoulder, neck, and back working together. Each area is interlinked, and a problem in one area may be replicated and amplified elsewhere.
Western medicine focuses more on the direct treatment of symptoms, with pain suppression and direct manipulation of problem areas. While this may alleviate the symptoms, it often does not address the underlying cause.

We aim to use both approaches to make sure our patients leave us being content and healthy. We will listen to all that you can tell us about your ailments, and fully understand your needs before diagnosing the causes of pain within your body.
Your treatment options will include massage, acupuncture, and physical therapy, along with other traditional approaches. Each treatment will be chosen to ensure the best possible results in the shortest amount of time.
We will work on relieving the feeling of discomfort and on treating the cause of the discomfort together. It is our intent to ensure that your body and organs are in good health and that they will remain that way for a long time. Your health is your choice, so let us help you live your best life.

We are proud of our ability to integrate the best of Eastern and Western medicine, and our therapies include aspects from both mindsets.
After a consultation with every patient, a series of treatments will be designed specifically for that patient. This may include just a single type of treatment, or a combination of two or more, depending on the issues that the patient is facing.
We take a whole-body approach, knowing that all parts of the body work in relation to the rest of the body. This allows us to treat the root causes of issues and not only focus on the symptoms. As such, we know that acupuncture treatments applied to the foot can affect virtually any other part of the body positively.
This knowledge is based on thousands of years of traditional Eastern medicinal practices, along with Western scientific data supporting the process with information on the nervous and lymphatic systems.
With the combination of the two systems of medicine, we are uniquely positioned to offer the best available treatments for a multitude of conditions.

Acupuncture is performed by inserting small metallic needles into different areas of the skin. These areas can be virtually anywhere on the body, including areas where pain is felt, but also areas that may seem unrelated. Pain can be relieved and blood flow increased.

Massage includes the physical manipulation of areas of the body, including muscles and ligaments. Blood flow can be improved, and muscles can be softened and relaxed. Massage may be used to even greater effect when combined with acupuncture.

Acupuncture is an ancient technique in Eastern medicine and is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. It has been practiced in Asian countries for over 2500 years.
The treatment is provided by inserting very fine metallic needles into the body in a variety of areas, using a number of different techniques. The body is fully mapped out by practitioners, with thousands of years of knowledge combining to give awareness of how different areas are linked.
A problem in one part of your body may be treated by acupuncture at the opposite end, or alternatively right in the middle of the issue. A skilled practitioner will know exactly what your needs are as the treatment is based on the routes and flow of nerves and other systems of the body.
The needles may be inserted just at the top layer of skin, or as deep as the muscle tissue, depending on the treatment required. All needles used are sterilized for safety.
Acupuncture has relatively fewer complications compared to other practices and Western medicine and is usually a pain-free procedure. The insertion of the needles is performed by an expert at exact locations, and while you may feel the needle it will not cause you any significant pain.
All our practitioners are fully trained and licensed, and are dedicated to improving the wellbeing of each of our patients.
Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain, headaches and migraines, joint pain, and other conditions.
The therapy promotes better blood circulation and stimulates the production of endorphins, which help with pain management. Acupuncture helps the body to become more balanced and generally healthier, especially through the use of repeated treatments.
Acupuncture is an extremely useful therapy especially when combined with massage. The two therapies complement each other perfectly, relieving pain, enabling better blood flow to muscles, and removing toxic waste products from the lymphatic system.
Both work together to help your body become the best it can be, and help prevent future instances of problems or illnesses occurring.

Massage is a physical process of manipulation incorporating the deeper layers of muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, joints, and even lymphatic vessels. Usually performed with hands on skin, different motions, techniques, and pressures have different effects on the inner workings of the body.
In the most simple form, massage will soften and loosen muscles that have become tight. Suffering from a “knotted” muscle can be caused by numerous factors, but a correctly performed massage will allow the “knot” to be broken and the muscle to relax.
One of the primary causes of knotted muscles is stress. Stress caused muscles to tighten, leading to problems of posture and causing pain in the muscles that are tightened as well as those that are stretched to compensate.
Incorrect posture or over-tight muscles in particular areas can compress nerves, causing sciatica and other nervous pain. Relaxing muscles through massage will help relieve this pain by treating the cause and not just the symptoms.
Our professional staff are fully trained, qualified, and licensed, and will revitalize your whole body through massage. This enables your mind to relax and become still, leading to peace in your soul.

We take a holistic approach to every treatment and work fully aware that the mind and body are intrinsically linked, making it foolish to treat one without the other. While massage is a physical process, its benefits extend to the mind, and due to the relaxing nature of the therapy, it can even reduce muscle tension in the head (which may be the cause of otherwise unexplained headaches).
Deeper massage assists the lymphatic system, helping the body to remove waste products that can cause physical problems if left untreated. If your lymphatic system does not work correctly, fluid may build up in the tissues of your body causing swelling. This can lead to infections and other problems, and even ultimately cancer if not dealt with swiftly.
During massage, blood flow is increased via the manipulation of the muscular tissues, providing more oxygen to the massaged areas to improve the health of the entire body.
When massage is used in conjunction with acupuncture treatments, the effects of both treatments are amplified. This leads to very healthy systems throughout the body, promoting health and wellness from the inside to the outside.

Physical therapy is a treatment using the movement and manipulation of body parts, especially limbs and joints, to facilitate enhanced motion, relieve pain, and help recovery from injury.
Traditional physical therapy relies on a series of motions of exercises for a patient to perform. Jiresan Acupuncture also use manual therapy in which the therapist moves body parts through different positions in order to obtain a similar effect by stretching and loosening the muscles and moving joints through their full range of motion.
Physical therapy will help to improvement mobility and flexibility and as such can help with recovery from injuries (sports injuries and other injuries too) and will help with strengthening muscles and improving the balance of the patient.
This will result in an improvement in posture, which can aid in reducing the symptoms of sciatica, fibromyalgia, acute and chronic low back and neck pain, and plantar fasciitis, as many of these are caused or exacerbated by the physicality of the patient.
Mobility and flexibility problems may have previously be considered to be issues faced only by the elderly, but many modern jobs require long periods of sitting. This promotes the wasting and weakening of muscles, and reduces the likelihood of having a strong muscular core. Computer users often sit with their back and neck misaligned, potentially leading to trapped nerves and musculoskeletal issues.
Physical therapy will help to return the body to its optimum state, and also help prevent future injuries by strengthening the body and making it less fragile as a whole. Inflammation can be reduced, allowing better mobility in the joints.
Chronic illnesses such as diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease can be managed by the use of physical therapy. A stronger, healthier, fitter body is always more capable of dealing with adversity, so physical therapy becomes a necessity when dealing with life-changing illnesses.
All of our physical therapy practitioners are fully trained and licensed.
